LIFE UPGRADES FOR A BETTER AND EASIER LIFE
1. FOLLOW THE 1 MINUTE RULE
This is a very simple rule and upgrades for your life. It goes like this,
If it takes 1 minute to do it, just do it.
That’s the gist of it. If it takes 1 minute to accomplish, then just go for it and do it. You may see yourself procrastinating a lot,
For the simplest of tasks, like sending out an email, making a phone call, attending the meeting, and others.
Sure the whole thing may take more than 1 minute or 10 minutes, but that single push you gave yourself,
Pushed out that procrastination away, and there you are, doing that thing you thought was going to be hectic, and realizing that you like it.
This rule will help you fight procrastination and laziness and get you crushing the work.
Sometimes, I don’t feel like writing a new post, especially a lot, but to be able to do that and provide value, I follow this rule,
I open my laptop and just start typing for 1 minute and by the time I look at the time, I’m already 30 minutes in.
This rule should be followed anytime you feel demotivated because no one will motivate you and you need to incur the habit of self-motivation.
2. USE A MONTHLY CALENDAR AND PUT IT IN A VISIBLE SPOT
Do you have a business, work, or anything you need to accomplish and you write down your plans in your head?
Truth be told, you will forget a lot of things before the 2nd week of the month. Your brain is not a storage device so stop treating it as one.
Use a monthly calendar, print it out, and put it in a visible spot, where you can cross out the tasks you have been able to accomplish.
Instead of storing it in your memory, do that on a calendar.
- The days and times for your meetings
- Posts to write
- Emails to send
- Graphics to create
- Outreach and all that
All this should be written down before the time you will execute them.
Doing this, helps you strategize your time and know you’re your day went. You don’t want to ask yourself what you did with your time at the end of the day,
To even make it easier for you, I have a monthly calendar in the Resource library which you can download and print out for yourself,
For free. Besides, we all love free stuff right? So get yourself a calendar, plan out your month,
Strike it off as you accomplish each goal, and you will be so much farther than you ever expected for yourself.
3. KEEP A BUDGET OF YOUR EXPENSES, ASSETS, AND LIABILITIES
Do you know where your money goes? Do you give your money a purpose and give it direction on where to go and what to do?
Or do you just wing it with the hope that more money will always come around one way or the other?
If you are the other type of person, then your life needs an upgrade, and fast.
You are in charge of your money, your income, your expenses, and the liabilities you incur in your day-to-day lives.
So you need a budget. Not a lot of people like to budget. You may not even like it, and you might see it as restricting yourself from the pleasure of life,
Well, budgeting isn’t like that at all. If you know how to budget, you know that you also budget for play money,
Which is money you spend on memorable experiences like concert tickets, travel, eating out, playing, and more.
When you draw up a budget, you are giving your money meaning and a job, which you should be doing.
During my reading, I realized that making money is one of the simplest things to do. How? You simply sell a product or service and get paid.
That’s the whole gist of it. The problem arises when you don’t know how to keep the money, grow it sustain it in the long run, and that’s where a lot of people fail.
Don’t be like that. Instead, draw up a budget, and give your money meaning, know what your assets and liabilities are and how to grow your money.
Two phenomenal books will teach you the basics of money, assets, and liabilities. They are:
- Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki: The best book on the fundamentals of assets and liabilities and why you should purchase assets and not Liabilities, and the second one;
- The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason: The first book you should read on the fundamental of how to build wealth and grow it.
Pick any of these books, read them take notes, and understand your money.
These reads will show you and educate you on what you need to know on how money works, how to grow it, and keep it long term.
Understanding your expenses is one of those life upgrades which you truly need.
4. MEAL PLAN
Wondering what you will eat in the morning, afternoon, night, and then buying junk just because?
Well, to be brutal with you, you need a plan. And just as your life needs a plan to move at the pace you want,
Your meal needs a plan, so it can nourish your body properly.
Instead of eating to stuff your tummy with food, so you can simply move along,
Start eating to fuel your body with the proper nutrients it needs to keep you alive and healthy.
Your body is a machine, it needs fuel to keep running and moving, and poisoning yourself will harm the machine.
Ditch the crap you always eat and start eating better. If you work 9 am to 5 pm and feel like you don’t have time to cook, the meal plan.
Meal planning has gained wide popularity over the years, and for all the good reasons.
Take out time on your Saturday to go shopping, buy groceries, cook your food, and plan what you will eat for the week.
This will save you the time and energy of always thinking about what you will eat. A few life upgrades are as important as this,
So take your time, plan your meals and fuel your body with the right ingredients.
5. SAVE ALL YOUR PASSWORDS IN A PLACE
We’ve all been there.
Thinking about the password for certain software or application for minutes and then getting frustrated when you don’t get it right.
Let’s change things up ok?
Instead of wondering what password of for which program or not, store all your passwords in a single place.
This is not me talking about a book, which can get into the wrong hands and reveal all your secret information,
I’m talking about using a single piece of software to store all your passwords, making it easy for you to retrieve and use when needed.
The software Lastpass can be used to store all your passwords in one single place.
If you use Chrome, then you can get it as a chrome extension, making it easier for you to store passwords and retrieve them whenever needed.
I use Lastpass, and it has been such a big help to me in the past year.
There are more software’s like this one, so you simply have to pick the one you choose and is convenient for you.
Now, you don’t need to crack your head for the password. Simply go into your password manager like Lastpass, and get your password safely.
6. USE AN EDITOR FOR YOUR WRITEUPS, ARTICLES, AND POSTS
If you are into the content marketing industry like I am, or you simply need to edit your work seamlessly,
To correct any grammatical errors and more, then use a software editor.
Sure nothing beats using a person as your editor, but if you are a one-man company, or don’t want to use a human editor,
Then using software like Grammarly or Hemingway Editor, to look through your work and article is the best place to go.
I use both of them and my articles have never looked better. There is nothing wrong with using a piece of software,
To make your work look better, easily readable, and not filled with jargon.
Try out Grammarly and Hemingway Editor for your next piece of writing.
7. SET ALARMS ON YOUR PHONE FOR ANY POSITIVE HABITS
Do you like the alarms that wake you up in the morning, reminding you that you need to get out of bed and get to grinding?
Pretty sure you don’t, but setting alarms for positive events are great.
Need to remember to accomplish a specific task at a specific time? Set an alarm to remind you of it.
It’s that simple one of the life upgrades that serve you well. I set an alarm for any important activity, just in case I forget,
And with the alarm going off, I know what I need to do, and go for it.
Have alarms for the important stuff you need to accomplish throughout the day and go forward crushing it.
8. DECLUTTER YOUR TECH
How many apps do you have in your phone and use, and how many do you have that you don’t use and haven’t touched in a while?
A lot right?
Look through your phone. Do you need Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Snapchat, Tumblr, bumble, Clubhouse, Reddit, and Quora all on your phone?
Unless Social media is your job or your source of income, then there is no reason why you should have so many on your phone.
All these apps may be doing more harm than good to you, and they may even increase your stress levels.
Declutter your tech. Remove the apps you don’t need and the ones that don’t add value to your life, and keep those that help you grow,
And mature to a better version of yourself.
How can you have 5 dating apps, 7 social media apps, 10 different games all on your phone, and then you don’t have a learning app like Babbel.
That is a recipe for mental and physical disaster. Take a moment to ask yourself the value those apps are bringing to your life.
And if your answer is none, then it needs to go.
9. PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR DATA
We are in the digital age, and all our movement is being tracked by big companies.
You may not know it, but every move you make on the internet is being tracked, the sites you visit, the pictures you like,
The items you order and much more, companies use this as a way of understanding people’s activities online,
And knowing why your online behavior is. When you use the internet, you leave digital footprints which can be traced back to you.
This may not be of concern to you, but this industry is worth over $50 Billion.
That’s a lot of money for your information. If you love your information being yours, and not being sold off to someone else,
Then you need to protect yourself and protect your online privacy. And you do this by using a VPN.
A VPN is a piece of software that protects your online presence making it hard for anyone to track you or know your location.
And is collecting your data.
The VPN company I use is Nord VPN, and they are hands down, one of the best VPN you can own. With a single click, you protect all your online activity from corporations and advertisers.
Your data is important even if you don’t realize it. but the sooner you get yourself a VPN, the better for you.
You need to protect yourself online as you do in the physical world, and you should do that by using a VPN.
10. GIVE EVERYTHING A PLACE
This came as the last in our list of life upgrades to make your life easier for a reason. Everything needs a place.
Look around you.
Are your coats lying around, your keys somewhere in the litter, and the remote to the far-off end?
If this is you, then you need to put some order into this chaos. Put everything in place. Keep your coat on the coat rack,
Your shoes in the corner, the keys in the bowl, the books on the shelf, the pictures on the wall, and more.
Let everything have its space. You don’t want to hurry out and then spend 5, 10, or even 15 minutes looking for keys which would have taken you 2 seconds to grab and head out.
So, as much as you have a place in your home and this world, let your belonging also have a place.
