Well, it’s officially that time of the year. Can you imagine?!!
This year 2020 has gone by in a flash, and schools here in Nigeria have begun to open. Well tertiary institutions, and I’m back to school.
I know this covid 19 took a toll on a lot of people, and it hasn’t been easy getting back up.
Most of us may even have neglected our self-care routines for one reason or the other, or some of us may be looking for how to start theirs.
It doesn’t have to be complicated, because that is where I come in.
I continued my self-care routine even right now in college, but it actually hasn’t been easy due to the school rush, but don’t let that discourage you.
Now I’m going to share with you my top 13 self-care ideas for college students. A
You don’t have to do it all at once, but simply take your time, and enjoy the process. And trust me, your body and mind will thank you.
13 SELF CARE IDEAS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS
- DRINK WATER
You may be like ‘seriously? drink water?’ but honestly, you have no idea how much we tend to neglect this.
Especially here in college, when I’m moving from one class to the other, and it happens unconsciously.
We all know that water is very important to our everyday life, and we should drink at least 1 liter of water a day.
Now if you are wondering how to be drinking water during your busy day, simply carry with you a water bottle filled with water.
I don’t buy water in plastic cans because I’m all about the environment *yup that’s me*. Instead, I have a metal water bottle, where I keep my water and carry it with me in my bag whenever I go for class or any school activity.
Now, get yourself a water bottle and start hydrating. *no pun intended*
You can shop for your water bottles here.
2) HAVE YOUR TEA OR COFFEE
I decided to put this right after my water bottle line because I know not everyone is a fan of drinking plain old water.
Besides having to add lemon slices, or cucumber slices, or any other fruit to your water, you can treat yourself to some herbal tea.
In addition to water, I like to have green tea, especially iced green tea because it tastes so much better than water.
If you like any other kind of herbal tea, you should take them too because it's great for your body and your heart.
If you are a coffee lover, (and I don’t mean Starbucks), give yourself a cup of good black coffee now and then, (but not too much) and you can even add some cream to sweeten it up.
Basically, your personal preference.

Are you a spiritual person?
I’m a Christian, and I’m sure proud of it.
It doesn’t matter what religion you are, because every religion is important. And no matter your religion, there is always that immerse feeling when you get to connect and talk to a higher power.
When you kneel and open your heart to God, you can tell him your deepest secrets and desires, and you know deep down that he is listening.
I love to say my Prayers every morning before I start a new day and at the end of my day before I go to sleep.
Doing that gives a feeling of great satisfaction and contentment.
I suggest getting a prayer journal, like this one, to help you during your spiritual journey.
4) PRACTICE GRATITUDE
Every day, when we open our eyes in the morning, we wake up to a brand-new day.
It's important that practice gratitude every day.
You can do this by getting a journal and writing down what you are grateful for every day.
Practicing gratitude helps you focus on the positive things in life, rather than the negative.
5) JOURNAL DAILY
Journaling helps you understand your feelings, and helps you know exactly what you do, how you do it, and how you feel before and after.
I love having a journal because writing in my journal helps me pour out feeling that I didn’t even know I was harboring deep down.
You can understand yourself better through writing.

6) EXERCISE REGULARLY
I love to exercise, and I cannot start listing the benefits of exercise, because they are numerous.
However, college stress may not let you work out like you used to, but don’t let that stop you from getting a little movement every day.
On my end, I work out in my room on the weekdays, in the evening, and on weekends, I get out in the morning for my workouts.
My routine may not be favored by you, but it's important to get a routine that fits into your schedule.
Don’t try to have time for your workout, make time for it.
If planning your workout isn’t easy for you, I made it easier, by providing a workout planner in the resource library, and also a daily planner up in my shop.
Oprah said ‘meditation changed my life and that was what intrigued me about meditation.
I read about the benefits of meditating 2 years ago, and I decided to give it a try.
And that was one of the best decisions I have made in my life.
Meditating connects your mind to your body and helps you understand yourself better.
Meditating has done all that for me, including helping me focus more, both in class and in life in general.
I will tell you to start meditating. You don’t have to go the long way. Doing a few minutes, a day will benefit you in the long run and you will thank yourself for that choice you made.
We are in the digital age, and the majority of us have phones, and we are on one social media platform or the other.
Being on social media isn’t a bad thing, but spending hours and hours, mindlessly scrolling through can be detrimental to us.
Once in a while, set down your phone, and do something else.
It can be chatting with friends, going out, relaxing in your bed, reading a book, etc.
Do anything that keeps you away from your phone.

So, we must take some time off to relax and refresh our bodies. Do whatever makes you feel relaxed, and in your comfort zone.

This is something that I love to do every weekend in my room.
You don’t have to do a professional facial before you can take care of your skin.

Skin cancer is a serious thing, and it can be avoided by simply putting on sunscreen.
Sunscreen is very important for us, because it protects our skin from sunrays, and helps to improve our skin.
I apply SPF 15 sunscreen daily, and if you will be outside for at least 2 hours, you can use SPF 30, because it is sweat and water-resistant.

Giving yourself a good soak after a long day in school. If you have a bathtub in, your bathroom, give yourself a good soak in there with essential oils.
